Mesem by PeerBie — School Privacy Notice
In one paragraph. Mesem by PeerBie is a private app used inside a single vocational education centre. Accounts are created by the school from its own official lists — there is no public sign-up. The school is the data controller and decides what is recorded; PeerBie operates the app on the school’s instructions. School data is visible only to members of that school, is never sold, is never used for advertising, and is never used to train AI models.

Under Turkish personal data protection law (KVKK No. 6698):
- Your school is the data controller (veri sorumlusu). It decides which students, teachers, parents and workplace mentors are registered, what is recorded about them, and who may see it. Requests about your data should normally go to the school first.
- PeerBie is the data processor (veri işleyen). We build and operate the app and process data only on the school’s documented instructions.
This notice describes the Mesem app specifically. The general PeerBie Privacy Policy covers the wider platform.
What we process
Accounts are created by the school by importing its official lists. Students, parents and mentors do not register themselves, and the app has no public sign-up.

Who can see what
Everything in Mesem is school-private: a person only ever sees the school or schools they belong to. Within a school:
- Students see their own attendance record, their own classes and the groups they belong to.
- Parents see the attendance of the children linked to them, and nothing about other families’ children.
- Teachers take and see the roll for the lessons they teach; coordinator teachers also see the students assigned to them.
- Workplace mentors (usta öğretici) see only the students training at their own workplace.
- School administrators see the school’s records, as the controller.
- Groups are private: only their members can see a group, its members or its messages. The member directory is limited to school staff.
Okulum AI
The app includes an assistant that answers questions from the school’s own material — timetable, rules, announcements and frequently asked questions.
- The question and the school material needed to answer it are sent to our AI provider solely to generate that answer.
- School data is not used to train AI models, by us or by our provider.
- Assistant conversations are deleted after 7 days. We chose a shorter window than the rest of the platform precisely because these conversations can contain schoolchildren’s words. A conversation a user explicitly saves is kept until they delete it.
What we never do
- We do not sell personal data, and we never have.
- We show no advertising and use no advertising identifiers or ad-tech trackers.
- We do not use school data to train AI models.
- We do not make student profiles public — there are no public profiles and no public sign-up.
- We do not use attendance data for any purpose beyond the school’s own attendance record.
How long data is kept
- Account and school records are kept while the person is registered at the school, and afterwards for as long as the school’s own legal obligations require.
- People who leave (a graduated student, a teacher who transfers) are deactivated rather than deleted, so the school’s historical attendance records stay intact and correct. They lose access to the app immediately.
- Assistant conversations are deleted after 7 days, as described above.
- When a school stops using Mesem, its data is deleted or returned on the school’s instruction.
Your rights
Under Article 11 of the KVKK you may ask whether your data is processed, request a copy, ask for correction of anything inaccurate, ask for deletion where the law allows, and object to processing.
Because the school is the data controller, please contact your school first — it can correct most records (a wrong class, a wrong workplace, a wrong parent link) directly, and corrections reach the app within minutes. If you cannot reach the school, or your request concerns how PeerBie operates the service, write to us at the address below and we will assist the school in responding.
Children and students
Mesem is used by students at vocational education centres, many of whom are minors. Their accounts are created by the school as part of running the education programme it is legally responsible for — not by the child, and not through any public registration. Parents are linked to their own children and can see what the school records about their child’s attendance.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on servers in the European Union. Access is limited to the school’s own members through the role rules described above, and to the PeerBie personnel who need it to operate and support the service.
